What is the difference between a chiropodist & a podiatrist?
A chiropodist and a podiatrist are one and the same. I would suggest that the main difference is that the term chiropodist has been around for much longer. Both are protected titles which means that you must have done at least 3 years in university studying a podiatry degree. In my experience the main difference seems to be the way people perceive the different titles. When asked most people assume that chiropodists deal with general footcare such as cutting nails, reducing callus and treating ingrown toenails. People assume that podiatry involves a broader scope of care such as diabetic specialists, musculoskeletal specialists and wound care. In reality both are the same, it is just podiatry in the newer more modern term for the profession.
