On Thursday 11th December, The Healthcare Hub was proud to support Crisis Charity at their Health and Wellbeing Day, an event dedicated to improving access to essential healthcare services for people experiencing homelessness. One of our podiatrists, alongside our Healthcare Hub General Manager, attended the centre to provide podiatry care for individuals using Crisis’ facilities, and to support the wider multidisciplinary approach offered on the day.
The event brought together a range of healthcare professionals, creating a welcoming and supportive environment where individuals could access services including podiatry, eye care and reflexology. The focus was on holistic wellbeing, recognising that good health extends beyond one single area of care. For many people experiencing homelessness, foot health is often overlooked, yet it plays a vital role in comfort, mobility, dignity and overall wellbeing — particularly for those spending long periods on their feet or navigating challenging environments on a daily basis.
Alongside providing essential podiatry care, we were also able to support the centre through the donation of footwear and socks. We took down 30 pairs of brand-new shoes (older styles from our stock) for the Crisis team to distribute to those who needed them most. In addition, we were incredibly grateful for the generosity of our customers, who donated shoes and brand-new socks. These donations helped ensure people could leave the day warmer, more comfortable and better supported, which can make a meaningful difference during the winter months.
Our podiatrist provided practical foot care throughout the day, including nail care, treatment of hard skin and general foot health advice. These treatments helped to relieve discomfort and reduce the risk of further complications. Alongside the clinical care, there was time to talk with individuals about appropriate footwear and everyday foot care, offering reassurance, advice and support in a calm and respectful setting.
It was a truly humbling and rewarding day for both our podiatrist and General Manager, who felt honoured to be part of such an important initiative. Many of the individuals treated opened up about their life experiences — both the good and the difficult. While it was sometimes sad to hear about the challenges and circumstances people were facing, the day was also filled with warmth, gratitude and laughter. People were genuinely happy to be treated, and the conversations, smiles and shared moments reinforced just how powerful compassionate, person-centred care can be.
At The Healthcare Hub, we believe healthcare should be accessible, compassionate and centred around the individual. Supporting Crisis and the vital work they do aligns closely with our values, and we were honoured to contribute to a day dedicated to improving health, wellbeing and dignity for some of the most vulnerable members of our community.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Crisis for welcoming us, and to our customers for their kindness and generosity. We look forward to continuing to support community initiatives that improve access to healthcare and promote dignity, care and connection.
